Question 3: How have I created a brand identity

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-GSzviVb34

Question4: What have I learnt from my audience feedback?

As part of my audience feedback I decided to use an internet based questionnaire (www.surveymonkey.com). I chose to use an internet based questionnaire over paper questionnaires as the internet based questionnaire allowed me to embed it into social networks such as Facebook and this would allow me to gather more results. The internet questionnaire also allowed me to analyse the results much quicker than what a paper copy would have allowed me to. The layout I used for my questionnaires was to show my products, and then ask the questions on that specific product. The results I gathered are shown below, all be it very few.

My first question was to find which gender the respondents were, this was important as our target audience was female, and also who had different opinions of my products as males and females can analyse things differently. From the results of my 6 respondents I can see that my products may be attracting males more than females, this could be a problem as it is not attracting my target audience, however as there are only few participants my questionnaire is not a reliable piece of information for making assumptions that my target audience is wrong.

The next question was to establish the age of my respondents, this was important as our target audience were 16-25 year olds. From the responses all of the respondents were in our target audience, this was a positive piece of feedback as we can get an insight to what people in our target audience think of our product.

My third question was to see what our audience thought the genre of our artist and video was. This was important as if we had portrayed our artist in the wrong way then they could disapprove of our artist and not enjoy the music. As you can see from the results we have represented our artist in such a way that they can gather the knowledge needed to realise that our genre was singer/songwriter/soul.

My next question was to find out how the audience thought we had portrayed our artist. This was important as we did not want to represent her in such a way that people took it as a negative and therefore wouldn't like her, this would be things such as over sexualising our artist. The results show from our survey that only 1 out of 6 people thought that she was sexualised, this is good feedback as it is reinforcing the fact that we have not represented our artist badly, and in fact she is represented in the way that we wanted.

My next question was about my digipak, I was asking if the audience would pick it up in a music store. This was used to see if I had created an intriguing that would attract the target audience. As I can see from analysing the feedback I can see that my digipak was not very successful when attracting the audience. Therefore if i were to redo my coursework i would think of redesigning my digipak to make it attract the audience more as this is an integral part of creating successful brand identity and a successful artist.

My next question was seeing how I represented the artist in my digipak. This would help me analyse my brand identity as I want my artist to consistently be represented in the right way. And from my responses I can see that she has as the feedback shows that the artist has been represented consistently and not in a too negative way as the proportions of selections are very similar to how they were chosen in the past question about how my artist was represented in my music video. From this i can take a positive that my brand identity is fairly strong between my different products.

This question was used to see how easy my website was easy to navigate, as if it weren't easy to navigate the chances of the user revisiting are reducded. From my feedback i can see that my website is easy to navigate and therefore the audience would be more likely to revisit the site, enhancing the reputation of my artist.

This question was asked to double check all of my products represented the artist in the same way, this was to help me analyse brand identity. As I can see from the feedback the audience thought the artist was consistently represented in the same way and therefore giving her a strong brand identity and giving the effect of enhancing recognisability towards her audience as all products are pushing the same feeling towards them.

My Last question was asking which linked my products together the most. This could be used to analyse my brand identity. as if I had strong links between each of my products then the audience would start to recognise my artist as a whole package.

I also decided to gain feedback by using a focus group of year 12 media students, I chose this age group as they are in our target audience boundaries and as they are media students it will help them with their media skills and also help me more as they have initial ideas of what to look for when analysing media texts.

The general feedback i gained from my focus group was positive and that i had created a good brand identity as they could clearly draw links between all pieces of my media product. They also felt i have a good house style of which they expected of an artist in my genre. The only problem they had was with my digipak as the most of them would not pick it up in the store as they thought it was too bland.

Looking at the feedback from both my survey and my focus group i can conclude that my three media products are clearly linked and they enjoyed watching the video as the narrative was good. However I could make my feedback more accurate by having more people take my survey so i can gain a wider prospective and different views of people from different ages. I could also gain better feedback by holding focus groups with equal numbers of males and females as then i can see how each gender would react.

Focus Group Questions

Show My music video and ask:
- What worked well in our music video? Why?
- What do you think the narrative of the music video was?
- Do you think the video and music correspond?
- What could be improved?

Show our separate digipaks and ask:
- What did you like about the digipak? Why?
- Can you see a link between the digipak and music video? How?
- Would you pick up the CD in a store? Why?
- What could be improved?

I will then show my webpage and ask:
- What worked well on my website?
- Is my website easy to use and navigate?
- Does the website appeal to you? Would you revisit?
- What could be improved?

After all these questions above have been answered I will finally ask:
- Do all three of the Amelia Lee products relate to each other? How?

Blog Update: Ancillary texts near completion

I have now fully completed my digipak. I have made a four sided digipak using a template and images i took on the day of the shoot and screen grabs of the footage. I have also created the front of the CD using the same image as what it will sit on. I have used two corresponding image to improve the iconography of the artist and intrigue the audience: on the front cover I have an image of my artist gazing into the distance, this would intrigue the audience to open the digipak as they would wonder what she is looking at, I then placed an over the shoulder image on the panel that they would first see when opening the digipak, this is showing what she is looking at and gives the audience an aspect of closeness with the artist as they feel like they are in the same room and seeing what our artist is seeing.

I have also nearly completed my webpage as today I imported the front of my digipak and added a gallery slideshow to give the user a glimpse of what our artist is like. To complete my webpage i will need to complete my music video and embed this onto the page.

here is the nearly completed draft:

Proof of editing

I have now replaced the content marker on my banner design with an image of the real artist. AS my banner is now complete i have transfered this across to my webpage. By having the convention of a banner on my website it will reassure the user they are visiting a webpage; as seen below.

I have also nearly finished my digipak design. I have finished the front and inside left cobvers but I have still got to add some details to the back and inside right covers. To complete this I need to add the tracklist, barcode, production company details and terms and conditions. I am still debating whether to change the panels as they are well designed but are not showing of creativity as they are dull compared tho the other two sides.

Digipak- planning

This is the conventions list I have made after assessing real life album covers.
The conventions I have listed are used for various things. For example the logo of the artist is considered to give them individuality and recognisability to the audience, this is similar foer the use of an image of the artist as the audience will keep seeing the artist and therefore become more familiar with them. The use of the tracklist is to inform the buyer of what is on the CD as they may be buying the album just for a specific song and if they do not see this on the tracklist they may not buy the CD. The album and artist name is very important as this is showing whos CD it is and give the buyer  an insight to what type of genre the CD is. The barcode needs to be present as this will be how the shops process the transaction of purchasing the CD. the production company logo should also be present as this is also advertising the production company as well as the artist. Also extra details (like copyright) should be present as thisis showing it is an official product and shows that it is professional.

Design 2

Design 3

Design 4

These are four designes I have created from looking at the convention list above. I feel that all of these would be applicable as they include all of the different aspects of the list. as they vary I will be able to take aspects from each and combine them if I feel that I have a good design but could it could do with a little bit of improvement such as placements of text.

Ancillary text 2- Digipak

Today i have started to design my 4 sided digipak.
I first found a template so I know the dimensions I need to stick to.
I then added layers onto my template so I could overlay images onto the template.
I designed the kaleidoscope pattern using the spray tool, I knew that the spray tool would create my desired effect as on an edit I have made before I found that when overlayed the saturation of the colour had increased giving the effect of it being darker.
I still have a long way to go to complete my Digipak, I still have to import the logo of the, import some images for my front cover and add all the text I need to add; such as the tracklist.

Website draft 3

In todays lesson I finished off my webpage apart from adding the correct photos of the artist, images for the gallery and posting the newest video. Recently I have been having a problem when trying to include a shout box for the fans to post in, as either the html has not worked or they are not compatible with iWeb, but I have overcome this problem and found a shout box which works and allows guests to post messages to the webpage. I have double checked that this feature will work by asking a fellow class member to post a message, of which was successful and I could respond.
This is the messages posted between me and my class mate:

Here is the link for my website

I have now started on my four sided digipak, this was started by analysing covers of actual artist and seeing which features kept repeating themselves and started to hand draw the drafts for my own designs.
